Few luxury saloons have combined elegance, theatre and engineering quite like the fifth-generation Maserati Quattroporte. Unveiled in 2003 and styled by the legendary Italian design house Pininfarina, the Quattroporte represented a new era for Maserati under Ferrari ownership. Combining a beautifully sculpted four-door body with a naturally aspirated, Ferrari V8 and a genuinely sporting chassis, it offered something rather different to the established German luxury saloons of the period. At its heart sits the glorious 4.2-litre, 400bhp V8, coupled to Ferrari’s six-speed DuoSelect (F1) automated manual transaxle. This arrangement - Typically only found in supercars - offered near-perfect weight distribution and a level of driver engagement seldom associated with a luxury four-door saloon. With performance approaching 170mph, a magnificent soundtrack and an interior trimmed in the finest Italian materials, the Quattroporte was truly the worlds first ‘Four Door Ferrari’.

We are delighted to offer this particularly special example, finished in the beautiful and distinctive combination of Blu Nettuno metallic over Crema leather, with just 15,500 miles recorded from new. Supplied new by Maranello Sales Ltd in January 2005, the car was ordered with an exceptional selection of factory options, including the desirable Sport Pack, electric glass sunroof and exceptionally rare rear-seat entertainment system. With factory options exceeding £10,000, the original purchase price reached an impressive £81,500. Having spent much of its life in the hands of its original owner, this remarkable Quattroporte has survived in exceptionally well-preserved condition and offers a rare opportunity to acquire a highly specified, low-mileage and possibly one of the best examples of Maserati's modern classic.

Exterior

Finished in the elegant Blu Nettuno metallic, the Quattroporte presents beautifully, the rich blue paintwork perfectly complementing the flowing Pininfarina lines. Arguably one of the finest colour choices for the model and one that stands out against the usual Quattroporte, Blu Nettuno offers an understated appearance in subdued light, revealing a wonderful depth of colour in the sunshine. The combination of its long bonnet, distinctive Maserati grille, triple side vents and sculpted rear quarters creates a silhouette that has aged remarkably well - As all of Pininfarina’s designs have. This particular car benefits from the factory Sport Pack, while the optional electric glass sunroof is a particularly welcome and uncommon addition.

With only 15,500 miles covered, the exterior presents in excellent condition, consistent with a car that has enjoyed a notably sheltered and lightly used life.

Interior

Opening the doors reveals a beautifully appointed cabin, upholstered in sumptuous Crema leather, with contrasting Blondo carpeting. The light interior provides a wonderful contrast against the Blu Nettuno exterior and creates an inviting, distinctly Italian atmosphere. The condition throughout reflects the exceptionally low mileage, with the leather upholstery, dashboard and interior finishes presenting particularly well.

This example was ordered with an unusually comprehensive selection of equipment, including the rare factory rear-seat entertainment package, an option costing approximately £5,000 when new. Further factory options include rear climate control, CD changer, telephone preparation and the electric glass sunroof.

Together, these features create an exceptionally luxurious specification, going well beyond that of the average Quattroporte of this period. It is also increasingly unusual to encounter these early cars with their factory equipment and interior specification so well preserved.

Mechanical

Under the bonnet sits Maserati's magnificent 4,244cc naturally aspirated V8, developed during the company's close association with Ferrari. Featuring dry-sump lubrication and producing approximately 400bhp, the engine delivers an unmistakably Italian blend of performance, character and soundtrack. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels through the six-speed DuoSelect gearbox, mounted at the rear of the vehicle in a transaxle arrangement. Unlike the conventional automatic transmission adopted by later Quattroportes, the DuoSelect provides a more direct and involving driving experience, retaining much of the sporting character envisaged by Maserati's engineers. Truly the purest iteration of Maserati’s, Ferrari’s and Pininfarina’s vision for the car.

Despite its remarkably low mileage, the car has benefited from mechanical attention following a period of limited use. Prior to its previous sale, a specialist undertook recommissioning work, including a major service, rectification of identified faults and replacement of all four tyres. This attention is particularly welcome on a low-mileage modern classic, helping to ensure that its mechanical condition receives the same consideration as its outstanding cosmetic presentation.

The original owner used the car sparingly, with maintenance initially entrusted to H. R. Owen in London. Its unusually low mileage and carefully selected factory specification make this a particularly appealing example of an increasingly recognised modern classic. For the collector, the combination of originality, exceptional specification, low mileage and the evocative DuoSelect drivetrain creates a compelling proposition - Surely, one of the best examples of the Quattroporte V as Maserati intended.

While we take every effort to describe the car as thoroughly as possible, as with all historic and motorsport vehicles there may be period quirks or characteristics that cannot be fully identified during our inspection, and all historic / motorsport vehicles will require regular care and maintenance — although, of course, it’s often these very traits that make classics so charming. Please consider this when purchasing a historic or motorsport vehicle.
