2021 Ford GT40 CAV GTR

POA

Few cars capture the drama and legacy of endurance racing quite like the Ford GT40. Developed during the 1960s to challenge Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the GT40 went on to achieve legendary status with four consecutive overall victories from 1966 to 1969. Its unmistakable silhouette, ultra-low stance and thunderous V8 power have ensured its place as one of the most iconic performance cars ever created.

This 2021 Ford GT40 by CAV is a superbly executed recreation of the legendary Mk1, built by Cape Advanced Vehicles using modern engineering while remaining faithful to the original design. Constructed around CAV’s stainless steel monocoque chassis and finished with accurately styled bodywork, it delivers the unmistakable presence and character of the 1960s racer.

Crafted with uncompromising attention to detail, this is not your standard low budget replica. This GT40 has been built with a ‘no expense spared’ attitude. The power is provided by a Ford 348CI V8 engine fed by correct down draft 48 IDA carburettors, faithfully mirroring the architecture of the 1960s works cars. Panel fit, proportions and stance are executed with absolute precision, resulting in a silhouette that is visually indistinguishable from the period racers that dominated endurance racing’s golden era.

This is paired with a right hand shift (as per the period cars) Quaife ZFQ 5-speed gearbox - specifically developed for GT40 recreations. This offers an engaging and authentic driving experience that perfectly suits the GT40’s raw and purposeful character. The soundtrack alone, a hard-edged, thunderous crescendo through the rev range, transports you instantly to the Mulsanne Straight.

The cabin is purposefully sparce, trimmed and detailed in keeping with the original competition ethos. Toggle switches, riveted panels and deep-set dials create an atmosphere that feels authentic rather than interpretive. Every control has weight and intention, every journey feels like an event.

What sets the CAV GT40 apart is the obsessive commitment to engineering integrity. This is not a replica in spirit, but a painstaking recreation built with a level of craftsmanship that has earned global respect amongst collectors and historic racers alike. The result is a car that delivers the aesthetic, dynamic and emotional authenticity of the original, yet benefits from the usability and reliability expected of a modern build.

This car is both capable on the road or track with Koni adjustable dampers, concentric clutch for a weighted but useable and reliable feel, dual pump system, Wilwood four pot brakes and an MSD 6AL digital ignition system are just a few of the build features.

This particular 2021 example presents in superb condition, having been maintained with care and used sparingly, having covered just under 1,000 miles. It represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of the finest GT40 recreations available. A machine that captures the drama and significance of the original, while offering an ownership experience that is both thrilling and reassuring.

First registered in May 2021, having been subject to the thorough IVA process, the car is now completely road-legal, but of course remains a highly capable vehicle for any track use, allowing the driver to make the most of the 500hp produced by the Bennett Race engine. A full vehicle specification can be supplied upon request.

Finished in the elegant and complementary shade of Ecurie Ecosse Blue, the cars presence dominates without trying. High-quality fibreglass body panels are fitted with precision. The quality continues into the interior, with lightweight Tillet seats and harnesses and Smiths GT40 instruments.
