The Z1 was BMW’s first addition to the Z (Zukunft) series, designed by the BMW Technik department in charge of developing concepts and new technologies. Obviously the car is best know for the retracting doors that retreat into the sills and can be driven with them down, however the car also features many new innovations such as the multi-link suspensions and removable plastic body panels, Along with that, the Z1 featured the M20 2.5l straight six engine and 5-speed manual box, and although only producing 168hp, it only weighs circa 1200kg, making it a fantastic handling car on bendy roads.
The example offered here is one of 75 original UK supplied Z1s, originally registered 01/03/1990 and sold by Central BMW of Birmingham to a Mr Crockett. Since first registration it shows only 20,200 miles from new and 3 previous owners, and has retained a substantially large service history including the original purchase receipt and letters, all of its service invoices and stamps, MOT certificates and dealer books, and was last serviced the 02/06/2026 by JWS BMW Specialist.
Following very diligent and careful ownerships, this example has remained extremely well preserved throughout. The body has benefitted from the addition of G-technic ceramic, with the Top Red paintwork staying exceptionally consistent. The interior, finished in the classic grey and camo style, displays the little use over the years with the passenger seat leather showing no sign of separation at all, and also the working original factory stereo. The car is also accompanied by its original tool kit.
