Exterior
Having been subject to a full “nut and bolt” restoration between 2015 and 2020, this incredibly rare Cortina 2.3S presents superbly throughout. The beautiful amber paintwork has a deep and even lustre with no swirl marks, and looking along both sides of the car, the panels are straight and true. All of the black trim and bumpers are in perfect condition and the sports decals are correctly in place. All window and door rubbers have been replaced. The underside of the car is equally impressive, a stunning restoration. Within the arches you’ll find 13-inch banded Sports steel wheels, all fully refurbished and wearing a set of Uniroyal tyres.
Interior
The stunning condition continues inside. The Recaro sports seats are trimmed in black leather. The delicate bolsters are undamaged with no wear to the stitching or foam. All of the interior plastics are excellent with a perfect textured finish, including commonly worn items such as the steering wheel and gear knob. There are no cracks on the dash and the carpet and headlining are all in perfect condition. A Pioneer Bluetooth stereo is in place for modern convenience, hooked up to some charming Pioneer parcel shelf speakers.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
As with the rest of the car, the engine bay is incredibly well presented. Many hours have been invested into the restoration of this example. The engine has been fully rebuilt and feels very tight and responsive. The 4-speed gearbox is smooth to operate with a nice short throw between gears. A manifold-back stainless-steel exhaust system has been fitted and sounds fantastic on the road.
History File
First registered in June 1979, this 2.3S has been in the hands of just 5 keepers, the current since 2011. Believed to be one of just 476 produced and amazingly, just 1 of only 2 remaining. This is one of the rarest fast Fords on the market – a collector's dream. Within the accompanying paperwork you’ll find many invoices for parts dating back to 2013, old V5s, a spare key, and a USB stick with photos of the restoration.
