Gelscoe Motorsport’s reputation for producing world‑class toolroom GT40 recreations is second to none. Presented in virtually as‑new condition, offering a rare opportunity to skip lengthy build queues and immediately enjoy a box‑fresh, finely‑tuned race car.
The GT40 is a true motorsport icon, born from Henry Ford II’s determination to defeat Ferrari on the world stage after a failed acquisition attempt. Following collaboration with Eric Broadley of Lola and leadership from John Wyer, the first GT40 emerged from Ford Advanced Vehicles in Slough in 1963. Built with a steel monocoque chassis, fibreglass bodywork and a Ford 289ci V8, the GT40 quickly evolved into a dominant endurance racer. Victories followed at Daytona and Sebring in 1965, before Ford famously conquered Le Mans four years in a row from 1966 to 1969.
As the value of original GT40s has soared, Gelscoe Motorsport has become renowned for creating meticulously engineered toolroom recreations indistinguishable from period cars. Their builds are recognised by the FIA with HTP papers and are widely accepted across historic racing series, with GT40s frequently dominating Pre‑’66 endurance events such as the Spa Six Hours.
Completed by Gelscoe in March 2021 and presented in an eye‑catching Ecurie France livery, is a superb example of their craftsmanship. The car has some additional detailing to the chassis and body that accurately replicates the details on the original Ecurie France car. Powered by a new Steve Warrior Ford 289 V8 producing 465 hp and 376 lb ft, paired with a Gelscoe‑built ZF transaxle, it delivers exceptional performance. Suspension is handled by steel‑bodied Koni double‑adjustable dampers, expertly set up through Gelscoe’s extensive shakedown testing. Safety is ensured with Premier Fuel Systems bag tanks (valid until 2027), new Schroth HANS driver harness, and Lifeline Zero 360 fire system. FIA HTP papers are valid until 2031, and the car holds UK road registration as a Ford GT.
Used sparingly, this car has completed shakedown sessions and achieved a podium finish on debut at Donington Park in 2021. It has also contested the Spa Six Hours three times, achieving an impressive 4th overall in 2022, as well as Le Mans Classic. and has been maintained by Gelscoe Motorsport throughout.
With GT40s continuing to dominate historic endurance racing – from the Spa Six Hours to Masters 3 Hours and Iberian Historic Endurance, as well as Peter Auto and Le Mans Classic – this car is perfectly poised for competition or high‑profile touring events. A beautifully prepared, race‑ready GT40 built to the highest standards and ready for its next chapter.
