Finished in metallic Tungsten Grey this 36-year-old pocket rocket looks fantastic against our studio backdrop. High quality, low mileage GT Turbos are now increasingly rare to come across, so to find an unmolested Phase 2 such as this is an absolute delight. Under previous ownership the car was treated to a full glass-out repaint in its original hue, and we’re pleased to report that after a few years everything still looks great. Even on close inspection all the lights, seals, and trims are first-rate including the genuine NOS side decals that were purchased from Renault to ensure perfect quality and fit. Other nice period features include supplying dealer number plates and a complementing rear window sticker. To help preserve its amazing condition the current owner has made sure to keep the car properly dry stored in his garage.
Inside, you’re greeted by a superb and highly original interior that seemingly defies its age. Everything looks and works exactly as it should with no notable marks to the switchgear or dashboard components. Quite remarkably the sports seats still wear their original two-tone ‘pennant’ cloth, and the deep bolsters are all reassuringly firm. The carpets and door cards are also original and, having never been fitted with any aftermarket loudspeakers, the rear parcel shelf is undamaged. The steering wheel feels great in hand and presents like new, the factory electric sunroof operates without fault, and in the footwells are rare genuine Renault 5 overmats. The original tool kit is also present and correct in the boot.
Another thing that makes this car so special is that it remains entirely unmodified, both cosmetically and mechanically. In line with the low mileage of only 55k the engine bay is very clean and original with no signs of accident or previous poor repair. For additional peace of mind, a fresh carb strip and clean has just been carried out at the current mileage. Other notable work includes a full service in late 2024 and a gearbox overhaul and new clutch in 2018 at 54k miles.
This low mileage Phase 2 GT Turbo was first registered in February 1989. It was supplied new by Wilsons Renault in Epsom, and unlike most examples that have now seen 10+ owners, this one has had just 5 registered keepers in 36 years. Within the accompanying paperwork the lucky new custodian will receive the original blue Renault document pouch with all handbooks, the original dealer stamped service book and warranty guide, original workshop and parts manuals, a selection of invoices and photos from the car’s glass-out repaint, a clear HPI report, spare keys, and the current V5C showing only 4 former keepers.
