Once seen, never forgotten. This original Vantage optioned DB6 Mk2, finished in Bahama Yellow, is the only existing DB6 Mk2 Vantage equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox, to leave the factory when new and to remain, in this eye catching and evocative original colour specification.
Introduced in 1969, the DB6 Mk2, was produced for just 16 months, alongside the newly introduced DBS range, prior to being discontinued late in 1971. An evolution of the DB6, the Mk2’s are coveted and highly regarded by owners and collectors alike. Discrete but highly effective improvements, found only in the DB6 Mk2 model, included redesigned and considerably more comfortable seating front and rear, much improved levels of road holding and handling, by virtue of the model’s wider wheel and tyre equipment, with correspondingly re-styled and distinctive flared wheel arch profiles. Importantly, for many, power assisted steering also became standard equipment, greatly improving the cars ease of manoeuvrability in traffic and when parking.
With a total production run of just 240 DB6 Mk2’s, only 70 examples were specified and equipped with the Vantage engine option when new. The Vantage option consisted of the engine being manufactured with triple, twin choke 45 DCOE Weber Carburettors, uprated camshafts and revised valve timing, producing a 15% improvement in quoted power and torque outputs, over and above the standard production engines. This example, 1 of the 70 built with the rare Vantage engine option, is well chronicled and believed to have covered just 41,000 miles from new, in the hands of its few enthusiast owners.
Subjected to a significant restoration by world renowned Aston Martin specialist engineers R S Williams Ltd and completed in 2023, the restorative works included attention to the chassis and body as well as all mechanical aspects of the car. Works included a complete engine and transmission rebuild being carried out, as well as rebuilds to the brakes, suspension, cooling system and electrics. The restored alloy body was also totally re-painted in its original colour and all brightwork, either re-plated or replaced, prior to a new set of wheels and tyres being fitted all around. Retaining the original interior, in remarkable condition for its age, the hides have been refurbished and preserved.
In total, in excess of £200,000 was spent with RSW, in bringing this rare and highly desirable DB6 Mk2 Vantage to the exceptional condition, in which it is presented today. With only light use, on dry days and for short runs since the restorative works completion, the car has covered some 1,500 ‘running in’ miles since the restoration’s completion.
Driving superbly and in an exceptional condition, this joyfully coloured, rare example of the Aston Martin DB6 Mk2 Vantage, would undoubtedly be welcomed as an entrant in concours events, whilst equally be an absolute pleasure to drive on open roads, where the Vantage engine performance can most be appreciated.
Included with the car, is a professional photo-book illustrating the restoration works carried out, itemised invoices of the restorative works completed, an RSW Dynamometer print out confirming power and torque output of the engine, after its complete rebuild, published articles regarding this car’s history, previous ownership details and a BMHIT certificate, confirming build details and specifications.
