Few cars define the supercar era quite like the Jaguar XJ220. Conceived as a technological tour de force and, upon launch, the fastest production car in the world, the XJ220 remains one of the most significant and dramatic supercars ever built.
Between 1992 and 1994, just 281 examples were constructed. This magnificent Right-Hand Drive example is number 73 — chassis number 829 — and stands today as what we believe to be one of the very best examples anywhere in the world.
With an astonishing 295 miles from new, it is arguably one of the lowest mileage XJ220s to be offered publicly in recent years.
PROVENANCE & HISTORY:
Delivered new in the evocatively named Le Mans Blue over Grey leather, this car was originally supplied to renowned historic car specialists Talacrest Limited, who retained the vehicle until October 1994.
At that point, with just 100 recorded miles, it was sold to Singapore Ferrari concessionaire Hong Seh Motors Pte Limited. While principally Ferrari agents, Hong Seh were highly familiar with the XJ220, having previously supplied six examples to the Brunei Royal Family.
The car arrived with its Singaporean custodian in October 1995 and was subsequently registered in Malaysia in 1996, though it has remained stored in Singapore for the majority of its life.
RECOMMISIONING BY SPECIALIST DON LAW RACING:
After a prolonged period in climate-controlled storage, the car was entrusted to globally respected XJ220 authorities Don Law Racing in Newcastle-under-Lyme for sympathetic recommissioning between May 2017 and August 2018.
Having acquired all remaining factory XJ220 spares, tooling and patterns directly from Jaguar in 2007, Don Law Racing are uniquely regarded as the foremost specialists for the model worldwide.
The works undertaken — totalling nearly £89,000 — included:
Complete engine rebuild
Replacement of the entire fuel system (Including New Tanks)
Overhaul of all four brake calipers, hubs and dampers
Full exterior re-spray in original Le Mans Blue
New windscreen and roof screen
New original-specification Bridgestone tyres
The result is an example that presents to an extraordinary standard, mechanically fresh and cosmetically exceptional.
PERFORMANCE & ENGINEERING:
3.5-Litre Twin-Turbocharged V6
542 BHP
0–60 mph in approx. 3.6 seconds
Top Speed: 217 mph (world’s fastest production car at launch)
Aluminium honeycomb chassis
Rear-wheel drive
5-speed manual transmission
Even today, the performance remains deeply impressive — but it is the car’s sense of occasion, scale and rarity that truly set it apart.
WHY THIS XJ220 IS EXCEPTIONAL:
Just 295 miles from new
Believed to be the 72nd of only 281 built
Highly desirable Right-Hand Drive example
Two-owner provenance
Delivered new in iconic Le Mans Blue
Nearly £89,000 spent with leading marque specialists
Arguably one of the lowest mileage examples in existence
SUMMARY:
Chassis 829 represents an extraordinary convergence of rarity, provenance, mileage and condition. With just 295 miles recorded, meticulous recommissioning by the world’s leading XJ220 specialists, and a documented two-owner history, this car stands as a benchmark example of one of the 1990s’ most important supercars.
For the serious Jaguar or landmark supercar collector, opportunities such as this are exceptionally rare. Quite simply, this may be one of the finest — and lowest mileage — XJ220s in the world.
