This cannot possibly be a 40 year old Porsche… can it?
To the untrained eye, this could be mistaken for any ‘ordinary’ 911 Carrera 3.2. But then you look a bit closer and realise things are not exactly as they first appear. This car is anything but ordinary.
The pristine bodywork and superb paint finish are immediately apparent, but it’s the small details that really make the difference here. The clean lines; no spoiler, no fog lamps, no headlamp washers. Polished window trims, headlamp rings and rear light surrounds. Chrome door handles and stylish Durant mirrors. A body-coloured grille and discreetly smaller ‘Carrera’ badge…….
The interior is pure 3.2, but re-trimmed in soft, black leather with a Momo Prototipo steering wheel and Porsche Classic Navigation system.
This 911 is not factory spec, but neither is it a backdate. It’s a very tasteful reincarnation of a brilliant car.
On the road it feels absolutely right – there’s never any doubt that you’re behind the wheel of a 3.2 – but everything feels ‘better’. It’s a classic Carrera for the 21st century.
In 2012, one owner set out with the clear vision to create an old Porsche that felt brand new. The result was a complete rebuild from top to toe – bodywork, paint, running gear, interior – carried out with exceptional attention to detail and, wherever possible, using all new genuine Porsche parts.
The top end of the engine and the 915 5-speed ‘box were rebuilt and tweaked with an additional Danske exhaust system and a short shifter.
The history file tells a story, as does the 911 & Porsche World magazine article from 2012 where this car also featured on the front cover.
Parts alone exceeded £34,000, much of it invested in areas where most people wouldn’t even notice – plus the bodywork, repaint and interior, not to mention the labour costs…..this was a no-compromise project.
Now, approximately 10,000 miles later, the high quality of the build is still unmistakeable. Even the underside, glowing gold with wax protection, is worthy of its own photoshoot.
A 1985 UK C16 RHD, supplied new by Warwickshire Porsche main dealers, Monarch Cars, in May 1985. It spent the first 9 years on the mainland before moving to Northern Ireland where it was further maintained to a high standard until returning in 2011 for its remarkable transformation.
This is a Porsche which is very hard to accurately portray in just words and pictures, it really does need to be seen and driven to be fully appreciated.
