1989 Cobra MkIV Autokraft – British Racing Green with Factory Hardtop

An aluminium-bodied Autokraft MkIV Cobra with factory hardtop, longer cockpit and under 22,000 miles. Recently rebuilt mechanically and ready for regular use

  • Built in April 1989, this left-hand drive MkIV is recorded by the Cobra MkIV Registry as a 302 HO Ford-powered example with EFI and Borg Warner T5 transmission.

  • Finished in Jaguar British Racing Green with magnolia hide, the car presents with the rare factory hardtop, adding usability and period-correct refinement.

  • The MkIV benefits from a longer cockpit design, offering improved comfort and legroom for taller drivers compared with earlier Cobras.

  • Since 2023, over £12,000 has been spent on mechanical works including drivetrain components, suspension rebuild with geometry setup, and brake overhaul.

  • The full aluminium body was produced using original AC Cobra tooling, reflecting Autokraft’s continuation approach under Brian Angliss.

  • Mileage is recorded at approximately 22,000 miles, closely aligning with an archived 2010 auction listing noting 21,000 miles and single ownership at that time.

Autokraft MkIV Cobra History and Lineage

The Autokraft MkIV Cobra represents the most credible continuation of the original AC Cobra story. Developed by Brian Angliss, whose Cobra Parts operation had access to original tooling, drawings, and methods, the MkIV was built to an exceptionally high standard.

Approximately 400 examples were produced, each combining traditional construction with subtle improvements for usability. Today, MkIV Cobras are widely recognised for their authenticity, build quality, and suitability for regular driving.

Ownership and Provenance

Supplied new to Mr P. Harris of Monte Carlo, this example has remained lightly used throughout its life. Early history is limited, however registry records and archived auction data provide consistency around specification and mileage.

The current owner acquired the car in 2023 following a period of long-term storage and has since focused on mechanical integrity rather than cosmetic alteration.

Mechanical Condition and Recent Works

Following acquisition, the car underwent a comprehensive programme of mechanical works totalling over £12,000. This included new driveshafts, a full suspension rebuild with correct geometry, brake system overhaul, and engine work including new cylinder heads and correct carburettors.

The focus has been on drivability, reliability, and correct setup rather than modification.

A Usable Cobra MkIV, Ready For Sports and Road.

With its aluminium body, factory hardtop, extended cockpit, and well-sorted mechanicals, this MkIV Cobra is well suited to road use and longer journeys.

Offered for sale as the owner has moved on to an original FIA-period Cobra, it presents a well-considered opportunity to enjoy an authentic continuation Cobra.
