1951 HRG 1500cc with Singer Engine
A well-documented 1951 HRG 1500cc with desirable Singer engine, notable trials history and long-term ownership, offered in strong, usable condition.
HRG, the 1500cc Model and Post-War Competition Use
HRG Engineering built its reputation on producing focused, driver-oriented sports cars, often competing successfully against larger manufacturers. By 1951, buyers could choose between 1100cc and 1500cc engines, with the Singer-derived 1500cc SOHC unit offering stronger performance and flexibility.
Cars like this were well suited to trials, hill climbs and club competition, aligning closely with the ethos of organisations such as the MCC and VSCC. The model’s post-war eligibility continues to make it relevant and enjoyable within today’s historic motorsport landscape.
Ownership History and Mechanical Rebuild
PPL 370 benefits from an unusually clear ownership chain. After early years in Surrey, the car became well known in trials circles during Tony White’s long custodianship in Somerset.
In the mid-1990s, Jay Hall carried out a full mechanical rebuild alongside cosmetic improvements and new interior trim, all supported by detailed notes. Later ownership by Russ Swift adds further interest, before the car settled in Walton-on-Thames for the past nine years.
The Perfect Car For Club Level Uses
Offered today in very good overall condition, this HRG is suited to VSCC events, HRG Association activities and road use alike. It remains an engaging, properly usable post-war sports car with the right engine, history and support network.
