About This Example
There are cars, and then there’s the Phantom.
Since 1925, it’s been less an automobile and more a statement – the pinnacle of quiet authority. With the launch of the Phantom VIII, Rolls-Royce didn’t reinvent the legend; they refined it. Beneath its familiar silhouette lies an entirely new aluminium spaceframe – lighter, stiffer, and designed exclusively for Rolls-Royce. The result is the most accomplished Phantom ever built: a car that manages to glide, whisper and surge in equal measure.
This example, finished in Midnight Sapphire, presents as a masterclass in understatement – a deep, lustrous blue that reveals its metallic grain only in direct light. A hand-applied Seashell coach line draws the eye across its vast flanks, while the Spirit of Ecstasy stands proud on the bonnet like a signature flourish. The 22-inch fully polished forged alloys complete the look – formal, confident, yet without ostentation.
Inside, the tone deepens even further. The bespoke Seashell and Navy Blue interior speaks to someone who knows that true luxury is balance – light and dark, softness and structure, tradition and technology. The cabin is a symphony of texture: Royal Walnut veneer stretches across the fascia, wrapping seamlessly into the doors, and continues through the veneered steering wheel spokes, picnic tables, and cappings. Overhead, the Starlight Headliner casts its soft constellation glow, transforming night drives into something quietly celestial.
The rear cabin is configured with Immersive Individual Seating, complete with massage functionality, rear theatre screens, and a central coolbox – a space designed for practicality and absolute comfort, whether driven or chauffeur-driven. Open the rear-hinged doors and the sense of occasion is immediate – the Commissioned Collection umbrellas, trimmed in navy with matching handles, are discreetly stowed in their compartments, while deep-pile lambswool rugs cushion every step. Every surface, stitch and switch is designed to be touched; contrast piping, Navy Blue seatbelts, and monogrammed headrests complete what is, even by Rolls-Royce standards, an extraordinary cabin.
Of course, beneath the serenity, there’s substance. The 6.75-litre twin-turbo V12 develops 563bhp and 664lb-ft of torque, delivered with a sense of effortlessness that borders on the surreal. The Flagbearer system scans the road ahead and adjusts the air suspension before imperfections even arrive, while rear-axle steering and active dampers ensure that what’s nearly three tonnes of handcrafted aluminium moves with the agility of something half its size. It’s this contradiction – scale and delicacy – that defines the Phantom VIII experience.
The technology suite is discreet but comprehensive: Night Vision with pedestrian recognition, Head-Up Display, Active Cruise with Stop & Go, Surround View cameras, Comfort Access, Park Distance Control, Ambient Air Package, TV function, WiFi hotspot, and wireless phone charging. You’re always aware you’re in something advanced, but never distracted by it.
Provenance, as ever with the world’s finest motor cars, is impeccable. This example has been maintained exclusively by Rolls-Royce main agents since delivery every year – eight recorded serviced, with the most recent completed in August. For extended peace of mind, it benefits from the balance of its Provenance Warranty programme until October next year.
About This Model
The Phantom VIII, introduced in 2017, is the eighth generation of Rolls-Royce’s flagship and the first to be designed entirely under the “Architecture of Luxury” platform – an all-aluminium spaceframe that would become the basis for future Rolls-Royce models.
Rather than reinventing the icon, Rolls-Royce took a “less is more” approach – subtly evolving the design while preserving the vehicle’s presence and provenance. The grille, the proportions, the coach doors – all carry forward the brand’s heritage, but refined with modern detail and engineering.
Underneath that familiar silhouette, the Phantom VIII introduced technologies that define modern ultra-luxury. Its Flagbearer suspension uses a stereo camera to scan the road ahead and preemptively adjust spring and damper rates (and active roll bars) for optimum ride comfort. Four-wheel steering was also added — rear wheels steer by up to 3° at low speeds and up to 1° at high speeds for enhanced maneuverability and highway stability. It also uses “Silent-Seal” tyres with a foam insert to reduce cabin noise by up to 9 dB.
Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 6.75-litre V12 (Rolls’s unique variant of BMW’s N74 architecture) driving through an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The Phantom VIII retains its position not just as a luxury statement, but as a subtly capable grand touring limousine – combining whisper-quiet refinement with every modern comfort under a Bespoke framework.
In sum: the Phantom VIII is less about radical reinvention and more about elevating every nuance of the Phantom legend – engineering, comfort, and bespoke expression – into the 21st century.
