About This Example

On our roads – narrow, bumpy, littered with potholes – a full-fat Porsche GT car can often feel like too much. Too firm, too uncompromising, too track-biased for the real world. That’s where the GTS comes in. The sweet spot of the Porsche line-up, it offers all the performance and drama you could ever need, but with the compliance and usability to make every journey enjoyable. The 4.0 embodies that philosophy perfectly. With its naturally aspirated flat-six, it delivers the kind of response, sound and drama that enthusiasts thought might be gone forever. At over 7,500rpm it comes alive, reminding you what makes a Porsche so special. In today’s landscape of turbocharging, hybridisation and digital interfaces, the GTS 4.0 stands apart as one of the last truly analogue Porsche experiences – and because of that, it already feels like one to watch for the future.

It also carries something that makes it quietly more compelling than the more famous 911. Where the 911 persists with its rear-engined layout – part of its legend but also its compromise – the Cayman places its engine where it makes sense; in the middle. That balance transforms the way the car feels: the weight where you want it, steering alive in your hands, handling that makes perfect sense on UK roads. For many, this is the Porsche to have. Overlooked by the masses, but all the richer for it.

But this car is about more than just its engine. It’s also the last new Porsche to feature the classic central tunnel design – buttons you learn by muscle memory, that you physically press. Ergonomics at their peak. Since the introduction of the Taycan, Porsche cabins have been filled with screens and menus, where simple functions now require multiple steps, distracting from the road ahead. Here, in the GTS 4.0, it’s all still done properly. Analogue where it matters, but modern enough to live with every day.

Delivered new by Porsche Mayfair on 16th November 2023 to its first and only keeper – a lady owner – this GTS 4.0 is special even by Porsche’s own high standards. Believed to be among the very highest-specified examples in the country, it carried a base price of £92,700, elevated by more than £17,000 of carefully chosen options to create a specification that few, if any, Caymans can rival.

Finished in Arctic Grey, the exterior sets the tone beautifully. Crayon has become commonplace and arguably had its moment, while Arctic feels more sophisticated and timeless – subtle yet with real depth in the right light. The look is sharpened with the gloss-black SportDesign package, Satin Black wheels, and high-gloss black exterior trims. It’s understated when you want it to be, but with just the right edge of menace.

Inside, the cabin reflects the same level of care and curation as the exterior. The GTS Interior Package dresses the cockpit predominantly in black Race-Tex, contrasted by rich Carmine Red detailing that adds both depth and intent. Race-Tex extends beyond the obvious touch points – wrapping the heated multifunction GT sports steering wheel, the PDK shifter, the headlining and even the sun visors – giving the cabin a tactile, motorsport-inspired character that sets it apart from the norm.

What makes this example especially noteworthy, however, are the numerous Exclusive Manufaktur touches specified from new. These aren’t superficial extras, but bespoke details that elevate the interior into something genuinely rare: floor mats trimmed in leather, a painted key in body colour, a leather-wrapped steering column casing, and the storage lid finished in Race-Tex with an embossed Porsche crest. Even the smallest elements, such as the fuel filler cap and the black-painted model designation, were chosen from the Exclusive catalogue to ensure a specification that feels considered down to the last detail.

The specification reads like a wish list of Porsche’s finest equipment. Most striking among its options is the Burmester High-End Surround Sound system – a rare sight even in 911s, and almost unheard of in a Cayman. At over £3,000 it wasn’t a casual box to tick, but for those who care about their music, it transforms the cabin into something very special. We must admit, it’s the first Cayman we’ve seen with Burmester, and it sets this car apart immediately.

Beyond that headline option, the specification leaves little to be desired: 18-way seats, LED headlights with PDLS, Adaptive Cruise Control, ParkAssist with reversing camera, two-zone climate control, heated seats, HomeLink, Power Steering Plus, Apple CarPlay, voice control and USB connectivity. It’s a build where nothing was overlooked, each choice adding to the driving and ownership experience.

For complete peace of mind, it remains under Porsche manufacturer warranty until November 2026, with its first service recently carried out at Porsche Brooklands. The front end has been protected with PPF from new, ensuring the paintwork stays as fresh as the day it left Mayfair. And with just 5,000 miles covered, the car is barely run in.

You’ll be hard pressed to find another Cayman GTS 4.0 like this. In many ways, this car represents peak Porsche: the perfect balance of new-age usability and old-school character. The engine, the ergonomics, the way it drives – all analogue in feel, yet wrapped in a car you can genuinely use every day.

For those who know what they’re looking at, this is the useable drivers car to own. Rare, perfectly specified, beautifully preserved, and very possibly one of the last of its kind.

About This Model

When Porsche introduced the 718 generation Cayman in 2016, it marked a shift in philosophy for its mid-engined sports car.

Downsizing saw the introduction of turbocharged four-cylinder engines across the range, offering efficiency and torque but losing some of the emotional appeal that had defined Porsche’s naturally aspirated flat-six heritage.

Enthusiasts longed for the character, response, and sound of the six-cylinder cars – and Porsche listened. In 2020, the Cayman GTS 4.0 was unveiled, restoring the naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six to the lineup.

Developing 400PS and revving beyond 7,700rpm, it delivered the kind of visceral, analogue driving experience that purists thought might be lost forever.

Sitting neatly between the entry-level models and the track-focused GT4, the GTS 4.0 combined everyday usability with thrilling performance, making it one of the most complete and desirable sports cars Porsche has built in recent years.
