About This Example
Some cars capture a turning point for a brand – and the DB11 Volante is one of them. Introduced in 2017 as part of Andy Palmer’s “Second Century” plan, it marked a leap forward in design, engineering, and reliability for Aston Martin.
Built on a new aluminium platform and powered by the AMG-derived 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, the Volante was conceived from the outset as a convertible, with its fabric roof engineered to stow away seamlessly in just 14 seconds. The result is a car that combines the presence and poise of the coupé with the added drama of open-air Aston Martin motoring.
This example is finished in AML Special Skyfall Silver, paired with a contrasting black roof and a host of dark exterior details. The gloss black forged diamond-turned wheels, metallic black tailpipes, and dark grille create a sharp, cohesive look, while the black calipers sit subtly behind the spokes. Every detail works to give the car a purposeful but understated edge.
Inside, Obsidian Black Nubuck hide is paired with Galena Silver stitching, brogue detailing, and celestial perforation for depth and texture. Carbon fibre twill runs across the facia, door inserts, and seat backs, bringing a contemporary sporting feel. Heated and ventilated seats, heated steering wheel, memory settings, and an electric armrest ensure comfort, while embroidered wings on the headrests provide a subtle finishing touch.
Specification is strong, with both the Dynamic Pack and Comfort Pack. Adaptive damping with Skyhook, torque vectoring, launch control, and selectable chassis modes underline its ability, while everyday usability comes from the 360° parking camera, blind spot assistance, cruise control, premium audio, and power-fold mirrors. It’s a car equally at home crossing continents as it is carving along country roads.
The service record is impeccable, with main agent visits annually – its most recent at Aston Martin Works in March 2025, at 25,805 miles. It also benefits from Aston Martin extended warranty until March 2026, offering further reassurance for the next owner.
At its current price point, this DB11 Volante represents compelling value. It’s at least £50k less than its bigger brother, the DBS, yet delivers the full Aston Martin experience: a refined, reliable, and highly capable grand tourer that’s as rewarding to drive as it is to admire.
About This Model
The DB11 Volante arrived in 2017, a year after the launch of the DB11 coupé, as the open-top expression of Aston Martin’s new era of design and engineering under Andy Palmer’s “Second Century” plan.
The DB11 had already marked a major step forward for the brand in 2016, debuting an all-new bonded aluminium architecture, sharper yet more fluid styling under Marek Reichman, and a focus on blending modern technology with traditional grand touring values.
While the coupé was initially offered with a 5.2-litre twin-turbocharged V12, the Volante was introduced exclusively with the AMG-derived 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, chosen for its lighter weight and improved chassis balance, particularly important in an open-top GT.
Its fabric roof was carefully engineered to fold in just 14 seconds and stow beneath a hard tonneau, preserving both boot space and the DB11’s graceful silhouette.
With rear-wheel drive, an eight-speed automatic gearbox, and adaptive damping, the Volante offered a character distinct from the coupé – slightly more relaxed yet still capable of genuine sporting ability, with a soundtrack that benefitted from the open cabin.
Over time, the DB11 line was refined with updated suspension tuning, interior enhancements, and the introduction of the DBS Superleggera as its more extreme sibling, but the DB11 Volante has always remained true to its brief: a sophisticated grand tourer that combines long-distance comfort with the theatre of top-down Aston Martin motoring.
