In 2004, Mercedes-Benz teamed up with motorsport specialists HWA AG to create a street-legal machine that distilled the raw intensity of its dominant 2003 DTM championship car—driven by Bernd Schneider—into an exclusive road-going package. At the heart of this engineering tour de force was a hand-built 5.4-litre supercharged V8, churning out 582 horsepower and paired with a Speedshift 5G-Tronic automatic gearbox. Paddle shifters behind a race-style, flat-bottomed steering wheel offered precise control, propelling the car from 0 to 60 mph in under four seconds and on to a top speed just shy of 200 mph.

The CLK DTM AMG didn’t just perform like a race car—it looked the part too. Its aggressive stance was defined by widened fenders, a large carbon-fibre rear wing, and a distinctive rear diffuser. The 19-inch lightweight AMG wheels tucked into those muscular arches only added to its menacing silhouette. Inside, the cockpit mirrored a race environment with deep bucket seats, generous use of exposed carbon fibre, and a squared-off steering wheel directly inspired by the DTM racer’s controls.

From the moment it launched, the CLK DTM AMG attracted the attention of elite drivers. Among its early adopters were Formula 1 legends such as Mika Häkkinen, Kimi Räikkönen, Jenson Button, and Juan Pablo Montoya. Just 100 coupés were ever built, making it an ultra-rare collector’s item—surpassed in exclusivity only by the cabriolet version, limited to just 80 examples.
