Exterior

This low mileage 1.9 GTI presents in very nice original condition. It’s really straight along both sides and the panel gaps are consistent all round. It has never been subject to a full restoration, and while not a concours example it looks and feels fantastic. Looking closely there are a couple of discreetly touched-in marks, and quite typically of the model some light cosmetic stress cracks in the paint are visible in the usual places, but certainly nothing untoward for a 205 of this vintage. The contrasting plastic trims have recently been treated and all present with an excellent uniform finish. All the glass is original Peugeot with the registration number etchings still clearly visible. The headlights are free from moisture ingress, and pleasingly the correct amber indicators are still fitted.

Interior

In line with the low mileage the interior is excellent with no wear or sagging issues to either the original leather bolsters or velour centre panels. The steering wheel feels great in-hand and there are no cracks or areas of sun damage to any of the dash or plastic trims. The door cards are immaculate, the original carpets are pretty much spotless, and the factory vacuum sunroof works just as it should with no leaks. Some other nice touches include the original Philips cassette radio and a full set of GTI-embroidered overmats.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

The 1.9-litre engine fires up first turn of the key, idles smoothly up to temperature, and pulls eagerly through the rev range. We’re fortunate to have sold lots of lovely 205 GTIs over the years but all agree that this is one of the best driving examples we’ve had. It feels quick, tight, and mechanically spot-on. In July last year the car was treated to a full service, timing belt and water pump change, with a new clutch fitted for good measure, so she’s ready to be driven and enjoyed.

History File

This cracking little GTI was first registered in August 1989. Supplied new by Southside Peugeot it has now driven a touch under 71k miles. The accompanying paperwork is complete with the original Peugeot document pouch and handbooks, a raft of invoices dating back to the early nineties, MOT certificates and tax discs, two spare keys still on the supplying dealer key ring, original sales brochures, a clean HPI report, and the current V5C showing 6 former keepers. Boasting a recent cambelt service, a new clutch, and a fresh MOT upon sale, the car will be sold ready for action on the new owner's favourite twisty B-roads.
