1933 Singer Le Mans with Triumph 1296cc Spitfire Engine, and an Unleaded Head Conversion.

Factory 1933 Singer Le Mans, now fitted with a Triumph Spitfire 1296cc engine, with unleaded head upgrade and overdrive. Ready for regular sports and road use.

Tracing the Journey

Chassis 48096 left the Singer factory on 7th April 1933 as a red four-seater and was first registered as JB 1921. After spending decades in the UK, the car crossed the Atlantic in 1983 to join William Hastings’ New York collection.

In 2004, it returned to British soil and was acquired a year later by an enthusiast in the Cotswolds. This owner embarked on a practical mechanical transformation while preserving key elements of the car’s originality.

Mechanical Evolution

The Singer’s original engine (no. 48169) and gearbox were rebuilt and set aside for preservation, showing a clear respect for its history. In their place, a Triumph Spitfire MkIII 1296cc engine was installed, paired with a 4-speed gearbox and overdrive.

The conversion was properly executed, and the engine rebuilt, including new piston rings, big end shells, and importantly, an unleaded head conversion.

Usability Improvements for Road-Ready Enjoyment

Alongside the engine upgrade, indicators and seatbelts were fitted for safety, and the braking system was uprated to suit more spirited use. The coachwork was adapted to a two-seater layout, enhancing the car’s sense of purpose without compromising its vintage charm.

The car has recently had a full oil service, fitted a new water pump, refreshed the brakes with new linings and wheel cylinder work, and re-wired the indicators, all completed by Stephen Hardy Motorsport, our onsite workshop partner. These works were completed to ensure the car is ready for regular road use with minimal hassle for its next custodian

This 1933 Singer Le Mans blends mechanical originality with thoughtful upgrades, making it a uniquely usable and enjoyable pre-war special, ideal for a first vintage car.
