Exterior
Successor to the legendary RS2 and now an icon in its own right, the B5 RS4 is a rare sight on the roads with only around 400 units ever produced in right-hand drive. This particular example looks fantastic beneath our studio lights and it certainly doesn’t disappoint up close. The Avus Silver paintwork is incredibly well presented with a deep shine and little more than a dusting of light frontal stone chips to report. The 18-inch wheels are free from kerb marking and the aluminium body trims are first-rate all round. In recent years the car has been treated to a few sensible upgrades including high-quality KW coilovers for improved handling and a more assertive stance, a Supersprint stainless exhaust, B7 RS4 brakes, and privacy glass.
Interior
The interior is a great place to be with body-hugging Recaro seats offering plenty of support with a luxurious finish. The silver leather remains in remarkably clean condition, feeling soft and supple throughout with no discolouration or wear other than a couple of discreet marks on the surface of the driver’s seat base. The front armrest, door cards, and steering wheel are also trimmed in fine Nappa leather, and again everything looks spot-on. The car has clearly been cherished by each of its four owners because even finer details such as the Piano Black trim, dash plastics and switchgear are excellent. Sitting inside it’s hard to believe that this one is almost 25 years old, with a superb fit and finish to rival most modern cars plus a host of modern conveniences including heated electric seats, digital climate control, and a seamlessly integrated touchscreen multimedia system.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The engine bay is just as clean as the rest of the car. Dressed in carbon fibre, the 2.7-litre V6 has been well maintained with 15 stamps in the original service book. The last service was carried out by West London Audi only a few hundred miles ago and a fresh service will be completed upon a sale at the asking price. Out on the road the bi-turbo engine feels smooth and refined, but when provoked delivers a satisfying surge of torque and acceleration to rival even the fastest sports cars. The 6-speed manual gearbox still operates with precision and the quattro all-wheel drive system ensures excellent road-holding in all conditions.
History File
In the hands of only four registered keepers this magnificent RS4 has driven just 69k miles. The accompanying History File comprises the original leather document wallet with all handbooks, a thick raft of maintenance invoices and MOT certificates, spare keys, and even the original December 2000 bill of sale and handover checklist from Vincents Audi in Exeter. The service book is stamped 15 times, lastly by West London Audi at 69,239 miles.
