One of the very last air-cooled 2-stroke Trabants ever made with just 6,000 miles.
HISTORY
In 1990 a group of friends that drank in the same pub in North Oxfordshire and had lots of motor industry connections decided to go to East Germany and buy the very last 10 Trabants made with air cooled 2 stroke engines. Our example is one of those cars that has remained with the original owner who only used the car for 6000 miles (10,000kms). A trip to Le Mans was later organised by the same gang and we have a bunch of great period photos on this listing to show our car attending both events. The car comes with a full set of documents and owners manuals etc. The car was recommissioned by famed 2 stroke expert Tim Bishop (also one of the original gang to buy a car) and now drives superbly with a super-slick gear change and all-round lovely ride. The trip was featured in a period newspaper, a copy can be seen below. A fresh MOT will be performed for the new owner.
SPECIFICATION
Beige with brown cloth seats, full size spare wheel, front head rests, original canvas roof plus new replacement, 4-speed manual gearbox, 2-stroke air cooled engine, over-sized rear view mirrors, front seat belts, heater, ashtray.
CONDITION
Completely original all-round with original paint, original roof that has faded over the years and has some wear (a new black roof comes with the car), perfect steel wheels including the spare, East German made tyres all round in good condition with plenty of tread, excellent condition seats, carpets and floor mats. The engine bay is in very good condition as are all the black bits of trim (some re-painted). The first aid kit, tool kit and jack are still under the back seat that has its original padlock and key to keep it all locked in. As the car is original there is some light patina as to be expected of an East German car from this era but no rust – please watch our video for a full condition report. Unrepeatable?
