Exterior

This UK-supplied M635 CSI presents beautifully in Polaris Metallic over black. The paintwork has a great depth of shine and the panels are straight and true along both sides. The polished brightwork is also well presented and the rubbers are first-rate throughout with no perishing or damage from the sun. The original alloy wheels retain their factory finish with recently fitted Michelin TRX rubber at each corner. One or two discreetly touched-in marks evidence the car’s honesty but otherwise it remains in excellent mileage-defying condition. The underside is also notably tidy.

Interior

The leather-trimmed Recaro sports seats are still remarkably supple with very little wear to note. Other commonly worn items such as the M Tech steering wheel and gear knob are also well preserved and again hint at only light use. There are no prominent marks on the centre console or switchgear, and everything works as it should. The original BMW overmats are still present in the footwells and having always been protected the carpets are spotless. At the rear of the car the seats look as though they’ve never been sat in, and the boot area is immaculate.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

At the heart of the M635 is the lauded 1M-derived M88 straight-six. The engine bay here presents really well and reading through the car’s extensive history file it’s clear that this one has always been maintained to a high standard. In recent years it has been treated to a full shakedown and overhaul, so mechanically it’s spot-on. The current owner has spent an eye-watering £24k on the car since 2022 with marque specialists, Classic Bahnstormers. This work included replacement of the timing chain and ancillary components, an overhaul of the cylinder head, and extensive underside work including to the body and suspension. This no-expense-spared approach has resulted in a 131k mile car that feels and drives as well as it would have done back in the eighties. For the new keeper’s peace of mind, a pre-sale inspection and oil service have just been completed.

History File

First registered in June 1985 this rare UK-supplied M635 CSi is 1 of only 524 ever produced in right-hand drive. It’s accompanied by an excellent maintenance record stamped in the original service book with a thick raft of invoices to match. The car has had only 5 keepers since new and benefits from a recent cylinder head overhaul, preventative timing chain replacement, underside overhaul, suspension refresh, new TRX tyres all round, etc, etc. All this work was carried out within the last 4k miles and there are invoices in the paperwork totalling more than £24k since 2022. With all these major jobs done and a fresh service now complete the lucky new owner can focus solely on driving and enjoying the car as intended.
