Exterior
This low mileage G60 presents beautifully in one of our favorite VW colours, Tornado Red. Having just received a full machine polish the paint throughout is deeply glossy with an excellent swirl-free shine – our studio photographs really don’t do it justice. Looking along both sides the panels are straight and true, and having clearly been garaged all its life there’s no evidence of corrosion in any of the common weak spots. High quality unrestored examples like this do not come around often, and unlike many early Corrados this one has never been ‘updated’ to facelift specification. Quite remarkably all the glass is original with the registration number still clearly etched into each window, including the windscreen. Filling the arches are the factory 15-inch BBS cross-spoke wheels with premium Michelin tyres date stamped 2024.
Interior
Much like the exterior, the inside of this Corrado is first-rate with no signs of any major wear. Both front sports seats remain in fantastic condition, even the driver’s bolster which in this case hints at only very light use. There are no cracks on the dash and the switchgear is unmarked; the original leather steering wheel and gear knob are also in excellent order with very few marks to report. A fully functional Blaupunkt cassette radio is fitted, and in the footwells you’ll find spotless Corrado overmats. The rear seats are also unmarked with the first aid kit present and correct within the central armrest. Inside the boot, the carpet is very clean and the parcel shelf is unmarked having never been fitted with any aftermarket speakers.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Lifting the bonnet is a real treat for the enthusiast with an immaculately presented engine bay, further testament to just how well this one has been cared for all its life. Even on close inspection there are no signs of any corrosion, accident damage or previous poor repair. The car is complemented by a great service history that’s primarily stamped in the original service book and then invoiced in the paperwork.
In June 2024 the Corrado was sent to marque specialists, John Mitchell Racing (JMR), for a full vehicle health check and general shakedown. During a typical JMR inspection they would readily fill an A4 page with areas noted for attention but on this example only five points were reported which, by their own account, is exceptional. Notable works carried out by JMR on this occasion included a full service, cambelt and water pump change, supercharger rebuild, brake and clutch fluid change, all-new Michelin tyres, and four-wheel alignment. Various other items were replaced as a matter of course, the invoice for all this totalling an eye-watering £4,494.
History File
This very special Tornado Red G60 was supplied new by Kensworth Garage VW in June 1991. In the hands of 6 registered keepers it has driven only 43k miles. The original service book is present along with all other handbooks in the VW document pouch. The remaining History File comprises a selection of maintenance invoices, past MOT certificates, an original sales brochure, spare key, and the current V5C registration document showing 5 former keepers.
