2015 Toyota GT86

The global car enthusiast community shared a collective, warm and fuzzy moment when Toyota and Subaru announced they had joined forces to build an affordable, lightweight, rear wheel drive sportscar. Many however, waited with baited breath as corporate types in finely tailored suits announced its name.

For those uninitiated, calling it a GT86 is merely a harmless alpha-numerical figure, but for those diehard amongst us, it was the automotive equivalent of playing Glastonbury after Stormzy’s set. The Tofu-delivering so often sideways Corolla AE86 is the darling of the Japanese car enthusiast community, so building its modern-day successor was a gargantuan task.

Unsurprisingly though, the GT86 was met with enormous praise. Whilst not hugely powerful, its combination of narrow fuel-efficient tyres and rear-wheel-drive delivered the desired effect. Today the GT86, now known as the GR86 to align with Toyota’s Gazoo Racing sub-brand, remains on sale and is an ever-popular choice for enthusiasts.

This pre-facelift example was supplied new in October of 2015 and is finished in Toyota’s Pearl White. Unlike many GT86s, it remains in its original condition. The GT86 has aged gracefully and remains an excellent choice for the discerning enthusiast.

The pearlescent paintwork is in decent shape, though there are an assortment of age-related stone chips across the front bumper and the odd mark here and there. Two of the four wheels do have some very minor curb marks, but nothing that detracts from the exterior greatly. They’re wrapped in a matching set of Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres, with plenty of tread left.

The interior, like the exterior, remains in its original condition. There are some minor signs of wear to the driver's seat bolster which is inevitable, but otherwise, it has worn incredibly well. The seats which feature a combination of leather and alcantara are finished with contrasting red stitching. The odometer shows the car has covered less than 36,000 miles.

Under the bonnet, you’ll find the key to what makes a GT86 so special. Its a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated boxer 4-cylinder, co-developed with Subaru. It features direct fuel injection, and its flat layout helps to lower the car's centre of gravity. It produces around 200bhp and in the case of this car, is mated to the far more desirable 6-speed manual gearbox.

Despite having covered on average just 3,500 miles per year, this GT86 has been maintained regularly and exclusively within the Toyota main dealer network. The car also benefits from retaining a Toyota warranty until April 2025.

The GT86 was the catalyst for Toyota to reignite its passion for building true enthusiast cars. The GT86 walked so the Supra, and the GR Yaris could run. But in truth, the 86 remains in production today because it is just as a good today, as it was when it was first launched.

It’s balanced, its poised and yet its also practical, affordable and usable. It’s exactly what you’d expect and want from a car like this. This unmolested example, with low-mileage and a great service record is an open door into some of the best driving experiences you could possibly imagine.

As with all our vehicles, a full digital folder is available on request containing more images, walk-around videos, and scans of the service history. The car can also be viewed by appointment at our West London showroom.
