1968 Porsche 912/6
£ 74 995

This Car
- Originally delivered as a US specification 912 in 1968, this car was later imported into the UK and transformed into a 911 2.0 ‘S’ powered historic rally car.
- The full bare-metal restoration was undertaken by Howard Warren and Chas Colton in Chester, and amounted to over 400 hours of shell work, strengthening and repainting.
- A period correct 2.0L 911 engine was sourced and rebuilt to ‘S’ specification before being transplanted into the 912 shell.
- Rolling road printouts in 2019 show impressive peak power figures of 197.6bhp & 206.6nm torque.
- Similarly, the 5-speed gearbox was fully rebuilt with shorter rally focused gear ratios and paired with a fabulous short-shift gear linkage.
- The suspension was overhauled, re-bushed and powder coated, and the shock absorbers were upgraded to Bilstein units all-round.
- Some other upgrades/modifications include:
- Complete new wiring loom
- New discs, pads and brake lines
- Adjustable pedal box
- Front & rear underbody protection plates in powder coated aluminium
- Bolt-in half roll cage
- Sports seats with full harnesses
- Heated front & rear screens
- Plumbed in engine bay fire extinguisher
- New SS heat exchangers and silencer
- Map lights, rally spot lights, Brantz Pro 2, Brantz Rally Timer and navigator footrest
- Since the restoration, the car has competed on a small number of Hero-ERA style regularity events, and has received on-going maintenance from Porsche specialists, Williams Crawford.
WHAT WE THINK
- What a fantastic machine this is, and so it’s no surprise that Porsche magazine ‘Total 911’ decided to dedicate a 8-page article to the car in Issue 165.
For those who are adequately funded and are considering an early 911 to actually drive, rather than merely collect and hold in suspended animation, then a car like this would be a great choice.
- This car, then, will appeal to a couple of types of buyer. On the one hand, anyone tempted or already hooked by the historic rally scene will recognise how capable and well-prepared this car is, and also how accessible it makes long-bonnet ‘911’ rally ownership.
- On the other hand, the bolt-in roll cage can be removed, the mud flaps can be taken off, and the timing gear unplugged. And what you’ll have at the end is a rip-roaring 911 ‘S’ experience at a very reasonable price point.
- As always, we encourage anyone who’s interested to get in touch and book a viewing/text drive at our showroom in Bicester Heritage. You won’t be disappointed!
