The Maserati MC12 was developed as a high-performance homologation special, designed to return the iconic Italian marque to top-level motorsport. Introduced in 2004, the MC12 was built to comply with FIA GT1 regulations, serving as the road-going counterpart to the race-spec MC12 GT1. Limited to just 50 road cars (25 produced each year in 2004 and 2005), the MC12 shares its underpinnings with the Ferrari Enzo, but features extensive modifications, including a dramatic new carbon fibre body penned by Frank Stephenson. Longer, wider and more purposeful than the Enzo, the striking MC12 boasts both a lower drag coefficient and greater downforce. Uniquely, the car also features a removable hardtop roof offering a visceral, open top, driving experience.

At the heart of the MC12 is a 6.0 litre naturally aspirated V12, derived from Ferrari’s F140B engine, producing 621 horsepower and 481 lbs/ft of torque. This powerplant, mated to a 6-speed Cambiocorsa automated manual gearbox, allows the MC12 to sprint from 0-62 mph in just 3.8 seconds, with a top speed exceeding 205 mph. The lightweight carbon fibre monocoque chassis, combined with an advanced double-wishbone suspension setup, provides exceptional handling and stability.

While Ferrari focused on Formula 1 dominance, Maserati leveraged the MC12 to conquer endurance racing, securing multiple FIA GT Championships and victories at legendary circuits like Spa, Monza, and Mugello. The race-spec MC12 GT1 proved to be one of the most dominant GT cars of its era, winning a staggering 40 races between 2004 and 2010, including two victories at the Spa 24 Hours. Maserati secured six consecutive FIA GT1 Teams’ Championships (2005-2010) and five Drivers’ Championships, cementing the MC12’s place in motorsport history.

Undoubtedly the most significant Maserati of the 21st century and a true halo car for the brand, the MC12 marked Maserati’s triumphant return to both road and racetrack. Far more exclusive than its Ferrari counterpart, it stands apart from its contemporaries in both rarity and collectability.

The Maserati MC12 presented here is likely the lowest-mileage example in existence, having covered just 285 kms since its delivery on 10 March 2005 by Loris Kessel Auto SA in Switzerland. The first owner, residing just a few kilometres away in Lugano, kept the car as a centrepiece in his private collection without ever driving it. For over nine years, it remained untouched until a change of ownership in 2014, still retaining its factory mileage of only 169 kms. The car was then transported via air freight to Tokyo, Japan, arriving in November 2014. Even at that time, finding an MC12 with such low mileage was nearly impossible, making it no surprise that the new owner chose to preserve it in his collection rather than put it on the road.

Almost four years later, the MC12 changed hands once more, this time heading to a renowned collector in Hong Kong in August 2016. To ensure the car remained in peak condition, it was serviced by Auto Italia, Maserati specialists in Hong Kong, in October 2018, with the mileage recorded at just 179 kms. After seven years in Hong Kong, the car returned to Europe in the spring of 2023 and was purchased by its current owner soon after.

Today, the car stands as the ultimate time capsule, even the tyres from the day of delivery are still fitted. It maintains its original handbooks, car cover, tool kit, tyre inflator and two keys. This MC12 represents an unparalleled opportunity to own one of the most pristine, lowest-mileage examples of Maserati’s ultimate hypercar.
