  • As a response to the European offerings from the likes of Jaguar and Alfa Romeo, The US car designer, Harley J. Earl, pitched to General Motors the need for a 2 seater sports car offering to the US market. In 1951, Earl and the ‘Special Projects’ team designed, built and conceived the 'Opel'. Unveiled to the public at the Motorama car show, the project then found the name that kickstarted over 70 years of a true icon.. THE corvette (the name of which was inspired by the small, maneuverable fighting frigate).
  • The hand built, fibreglass bodies (revolutionary at the time), started production in Flint, Michigan for lightness, but also due to depletion of steel after the Korean War.
  • The car utilises the 'Blue Flame' inline six-cylinder truck engine - proven to be robust and reliable, coupled to a two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission and drum brakes all round
