This 1963 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 Fixed-Head Coupé, chassis number 889099, was restored to UK RHD specification by The Splined Hub between 2017 and 2018 for broadcaster, writer and car enthusiast Alan Titchmarsh. Originally delivered to the United States, the car was sourced and fully restored to a high standard and maintained meticulously since and remains in excellent condition.

Finished in Opalescent Dark Blue with a red leather interior, a highly desirable colour combination for the E-Type. The restoration began with a full body strip, returning the car to bare metal before addressing any repairs. The bodywork was returned to factory standard, and comprehensive corrosion protection was applied to all cavities and seams to ensure longevity.

The car’s original matching-numbers engine was completely rebuilt. Upgrades were sympathetically applied to enhance usability, including electronic ignition, a high-capacity aluminium radiator, a modern cooling fan, and a high-torque Powerlite starter motor. A period-style Dynator C42 alternator was also fitted, providing modern charging performance while maintaining the look of a traditional dynamo. The carburettors were rebuilt, and all linkages were re-plated to ensure the engine bay presents beautifully.

The gearbox and rear axle were fully rebuilt during the process, ensuring smooth operation. The suspension received equal attention, with the front assembly featuring nickel-plated components for durability and upgraded Koni Classic dampers. The rear suspension cage and wishbones were stripped and powder-coated before reassembly with new springs and dampers. Hubs were bead-blasted, fitted with new wheel bearings, and reassembled to a high standard.

The braking system has been improved with 4-pot aluminium front callipers and vented discs, providing better-stopping power. The rear brakes were upgraded with aluminium piston assemblies and uprated pads to match.

The interior has been beautifully retrimmed, making use of the original seat frames. Retractable seat belts with chrome hardware have been fitted, and the car also features a heated rear screen for added practicality. The interior benefits from upgraded lighting, including instrument lighting and footwell illumination, providing a discreet improvement.

Externally, the car features re-chromed brightwork, frame-mounted door mirrors, and a stainless-steel exhaust system with cast heat shields. The car was also fitted with Dunlop SP Sport tyres, offering excellent performance.

Mechanically and cosmetically, this Jaguar E-Type has been restored to a very high standard, while a number of thoughtful upgrades totalling £7,000, such as the Mangoletsi throttle linkage, enhance the driving experience.

The car is accompanied by a detailed history file documenting the restoration process with photographic records, an owner’s manual, and spare keys.

This E-Type has been carefully maintained since its restoration and has recently completed a 200-mile journey, confirming that it performs exactly as it should. It offers strong driving characteristics making it equally suitable for regular road use or events.
