Speedbroker have the pleasure to bring to the market this breathtaking Bentley S2 Continental 2dr. Having been sympathetically restored and presenting in fine fettle throughout, this vehicle represents exclusivity, opulence and style like no other

Bentley and Rolls-Royce each had their own genuine star of the 1959 London Motor Show, releasing their first all alloy V8 engine found in both the Bentley S2 and its cousin, the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II. The engine output was rated at approximately 200bhp and, by virtue of its alloy construction, weighed the same as the outgoing 4.8-litre six-cylinder engine of the S1. Bentley would utilise this engine in the elegant "Continental", the highest specification of the chassis. Although quite similar to the standard S2, the Continentals featured upgraded brakes and a higher rear axle ratio to handle the more demanding requirements for Grand touring on the European continent. The Continentals were faster with increased comfort over standard production cars. Externally the new models appeared virtually unchanged, while beneath the skin Rolls-Royce's own four-speed automatic transmission was now the only one on offer and power steering had been standardised. For those wanting exclusivity, Bentley were offering bespoke coachwork, which was executed by and large on the Bentley Continental, as opposed to the standard S2 by H.J. Mulliner and Park Ward. Both coachbuilding companies were owned by Rolls-Royce.

Of the 388 S2 Continentals made, 222 were bodied in styles that originated with H J Mulliner and 125 with those of Park Ward, only 71 RHD two door saloons were built!

Delivered to its first owner on the 3rd June 1961 by retailers Weybridge Autos, and finished in grey/silver, the vehicle was originally supplied with red leather interior and beige carpets piped red. The current custodian has completed a thorough restoration which includes an interior colour change to black leather and black carpets. First registered to H.Vickery Ltd with only 4 previous owners owners the last since having long term ownership back to 1984.

Originally registered on ‘HLV 36’ , chassis BC93BY has a fabulous history of fastidious care, and within our picture gallery you are even able to see a wonderful postcard of the car with its rear optional GB plaque on display, a nod to its presence and provenance.
