Every once in a while, we get a car in the showroom that just feels like perfection. And this Jaguar E-Type Series I 4.2 FHC is exactly that—a beautifully restored example of what many consider the most iconic British sports car ever made. We've had the privilege of working on and selling some fantastic E-Types over the years, but this one? This one ranks exceptionally high on the list. The way it sits, with its mega silhouette, that sweeping bonnet, and the unmistakable presence - tricky to replicate.
The Jaguar E-Type did more than just deliver one of the most beautiful motorcars ever made; it was also a revolution in automotive design and performance. Launched in 1961, it captured the attention of the world with its breathtaking looks and cutting-edge technology. A tired phrase, but Enzo Ferrari himself famously called it “the most beautiful car ever made,” and honestly, who are we to argue. Everyone from George Harrison to Steve McQueen wanted to be seen in an E-Type, and it's easy to see why. It embodied the spirit of the 1960s—fast, stylish, and full of charisma.
The beating heart is the 4.2-litre straight-six engine. Jaguar made significant improvements when they introduced the 4.2-liter version of the E-Type. This engine gives you more torque than the earlier 3.8, making it much more drivable around town while still offering that raw, thrilling performance when you put your foot down. It's paired with a four-speed manual gearbox that's smooth yet tactile—every shift is a satisfying connection between you and the car. The suspension, with its independent rear setup, gives you that wonderful combination of comfort and control, making the E-Type equally happy on a twisty road as it is cruising through city streets.
As always, I took this one out for a drive to the park for its photoshoot, and have to say, it's everything you'd expect from an E-Type—and then some. That feeling when you fire up the engine and hear the low growl from the twin exhausts, it's an experience that never gets old. The car feels poised, eager, and ready to deliver pure driving pleasure. Gliding through the streets, heads were turning left and right, and when I parked it for the shoot, I had a crowd within minutes. There's just something about this car that draws people in.
This particular car has undergone an extensive restoration, documented in a huge history file that we are proud to offer with the car. No stone was left unturned during the restoration, and the result is simply stunning. The car retains its original factory color, which has been beautifully finished, and it comes with a Jaguar Heritage Certificate confirming that all the numbers match. It's a level of authenticity and attention to detail that's hard to find, especially in a car that looks this good.
This is a car that still has that magical ability to transport you back to a time when driving was all about passion. It's fast, it's gorgeous, and it's a real piece of British motoring history. This E-Type is truly something special—one of those rare cars that's as good to drive as it is to look at.
So if you've been waiting for the perfect E-Type, this might just be the one. It's got everything—looks, incredible restoration, and performance—and it's a real “humdinger.” This is a car that's going to make someone very, very happy.
