This MG Magnette MG3179 was built constructed in 1996 using the remains of an 1934 NA chassis 257, by the then owner, Mr Colin Alderman. Peter Green, his friend and associate who oversaw the work. The late Peter Green was highly regarded in the MG Triple M and VSCC world, owning many triple M’s including K3 Chassis; #3011.
The result of their hard work produced a very effective, replica, styled akin to the Evans Brothers' Bellevue Garage N-Type Magnette K3 racers, of which just three were built. These Bellevue cars differed from the factory K3s, featuring a large slab-tank for long range competition, with twin racing filler caps.

Mechanics.
On inspection of the block there is no apparent engine number, which indicates that this in more than likely a replacement block, which in turn is painted in Bayton Jones colour’s. Records in the file confirm a Phoenix billet counter-balanced crankshaft, forged con-rods and Cosworth racing pistons. A VSCC approved Volumex supercharger is fed by a 1¾" SU carburettor with a rare T3 float bowl. The six-branch external exhaust, leads to a Brooklands-style silencer and fish tail.
Transmission consists of an Armstrong pre-selector gearbox; 4.55:1-ratio differential; and stronger N-Type half-shafts and rear hubs.. Braking is looked after by the larger 13" brakes operated by hydraulics.
My thoughts
When first conceived in 1996 by Colin and Peter they chose a very useable body style, in the main we see plenty of pointed tail K3 and Q type replicas through our hands, however the slab tank style bodies are all together more practical, featuring ample luggage space behind the seats, even room for your race kit and overnight bag if you fancy a bit of competition. The engine features all the right bits, so could be used for racing once more, or longer endurance rallying.
