In 2005, Ferrari introduced the Superamerica, offering open-top motoring for all seasons. Though visually similar to the 575M coupé, the Superamerica benefitted from a specially designed retractable hardtop roof, which enabled the grand tourer to quickly turn from coupé to convertible. Built out of carbon fibre and electrochromic glass materials, the “Revocromico” rotating roof is activated at the flick of a switch. While in coupé form, with the panel in place, the level of transparency can also be adjusted.
Following Ferrari’s proud tradition of class-leading front-engined V12s, the Superamerica was praised not only for its clever styling, but its fantastic handling capabilities. Though it shared the 575M drivetrain, the V12 powerplant was lightly modified. Ferrari claimed a total output of 532 horsepower, with torque reaching an impressive 434 lb ft at 5,250 rpm. At the time, Ferrari marketed the Superamerica as the world’s fastest convertible, rating its top speed at an impressive 199 mph.
This particular RHD example was supplied new in November 2005 via Graypaul Ferrari Nottingham and was one of 63 examples delivered to the UK.
