The 365 GT4 Berlinetta Boxer is a true landmark in Ferrari’s history, being the first model to feature a flat-12 engine. Unveiled in prototype form at the 1971 Turin Motor Show, it went into production in 1973 with very few changes. At its debut, it was both the fastest and most expensive car in the world. With just 367 examples produced between 1973 and 1976, the 365 GT4 Berlinetta Boxer has become one of Ferrari’s most sought-after models.

This particular car is even rarer, as one of only 58 right-hand-drive models built for the UK market. Chassis number '17649' was completed on 5th February 1974 and left the factory finished in Blu Chiaro with a beige Connolly leather interior. It was delivered to Colonel Ronnie Hoare’s Maranello Concessionaires and sold in March 1974 to its first owner, the internationally renowned boat racer and designer Don Shead. Shead’s legacy includes designing powerboats for the Uno Embassy Racing Team in the 1970s, a team co-owned by Colonel Ronnie Hoare at the time, further adding to the car’s historical significance.

Over the years, the car changed hands several times. In the early 1980s, A G F Oldworth acquired it and re-registered it as 'CJ 15'. In 1984, Peter English became the owner and changed the registration to 'RLJ 565M'. A year later, Roger L Earl of Surrey purchased the car, re-registering it as '8332 RE'. By the mid-1990s, it was owned by Christopher Roberts, who re-registered it to its current plate, 'DBY 462M'.

Subsequent owners include David Tregar in the late 1990s and Ian Entwistle around 2000. The car was later registered to Andrew Stear of London in 2006 before being sold to the current owner in 2012.

Since then, the car has undergone significant maintenance and a thorough restoration. Initially serviced by Bob Houghton, the Ferrari was extensively restored by marque specialists Keys Motorsport between 2014 and 2020, with restoration costs exceeding £94,000. Notable work includes a gearbox replacement and a new speedometer, both fitted by Bob Houghton in November 2012 at 42,274 miles. This car is a pristine example of the rare and highly desirable Ferrari.
