A simply stunning Volvo 240 with just 49,900 miles and 1 owner from new.
HISTORY
With just one owner from new, purchased from Volvo Stamford Hill (there is an excellent Channel 4 doc called Volvo City on youtube about the people, the cars and the area). The car was used by the family until 1999 when the black cab driver owner decided the 240 wouldn’t run on the in-coming unleaded fuel so the car was put away in the garage where it would remain until we rescued it in June of this year. The car was cleaned, started and moved every weekend up the the owners death in 2009. From then till now it remained in the garage. When we took the blankets and covers off the car we found a dusty but immaculate example underneath. The car rolled out of the garage with no locked brakes and was loaded onto a trailer. Upon returning to us a new cambelt was fitted, fuel drained and replace and a new battery installed. The car started up straight away! When recommissioning the car we changed the rear discs and pads, some brake lines, oil and air filter, V belts, spark plugs, a contact set, anti-freeze, brake fluid, gear oil and automatic transmission fluid, a rocker cover gasket, tailgate struts, wipers all-round including headlamps and a new set of Toyo tyres as the original set were dated 1983. This car is as original as you will find, anywhere! We have driven it a few hundred miles including a trouble-free trip to the Festival of the Unexceptional where it drew a crowd throughout the day. The car has been MOTed this month and passed with no advisories.
SPECIFICATION
Red with grey cloth and black bases, automatic gearbox, no radio or speakers(!), vanity mirror in glovebox, rear Volvo branded mud-flaps, steel wheels with centre caps, original jack and tool-kit, front headlamp wash/wipe, power steering.
CONDITION
Beautiful near flawless paint finish all over, original finish to the steel wheels with some blemishes touched in, immaculate interior, absolutely immaculate and original under the bonnet and in the boot area, no rust anywhere on this car and very clean and solid underneath – this car was undersealed we believe from new and has completely saved it from rust. The spare wheel, tool kit and jack are as new. The car has its original dealer branded number plates, rear window sticker and tax disc holder, not reproductions. I cannot imagine fining a 240 estate in better condition, absolutely must be seen! Has a clear Motor Check certificate, a file with some bills and books the old but current V5C from the 90s and 2 keys. This car can be registered as Historic by the next owner (we cannot as the car is in trade) so will be tax, MOT and ULEZ exempt as it will be 41 years old in November. Unrepeatable?
