A glorious example of the breath-taking W111 variant, this 1962 Mercedes-Benz 220 SEB manual was delivered new to California and restored in Belgium before repatriation to the UK.
As part of the restoration, the unsightly US specification bumpers and headlights were replaced with European units before the gorgeous blue hue was applied. Moving inside, the five pleat leather seats were restored alongside the woodwork and fresh original specification box weave carpets fitted.
The car has been known to Duke of London since 2013, we supplied in to its most recent owner in 2022. Since 2013, over £14,000 has been spent on this Mercedes to ensure the car was in on-the-button condition at all times, with invoices from leading specialists Hilton & Moss within the history file. Hilton & Moss carried out much maintenance work including regular services and oil changes despite the limited yearly mileage, as well as sympathetic paintwork repairs to small areas to keep the car sharp.
The car has covered very limited mileage since the period correct white wall tires were fitted, along with an overhaul of the brake system, and recently received a full sound system upgrade costing over £2,000 including noise cancelling insulation and upgraded speakers. Recently, the car has been serviced, had a new exhaust system fitted and also an overhaul of the suspension.
The most recent owner has invested in a set of 4 new Michelin White Wall tyres, a new custom exhaust, new tan seatbelts and a new Meta immobiliser fitted.
Having been well cared for but not over-restored, the result is an utterly usable and incredibly enjoyable classic Mercedes. Add to this the pillarless coupé body style and bouncing sound system, and the overall effect is really quite something.
As with all of our vehicles, we have a digital folder available on request containing more images, walkaround videos, pictures of the underside and scans of the service history. The car can be viewed by appointment at our West London showroom.
