EXTERIOR

The Satellite Silver paintwork remains in good order with only a few minor blemishes to note. Starting at the front, the lights are crystal clear and the original Evolution letters are still in place. There are a handful of small chips and marks on the front bumper and around both door entry sills (we have left them untouched) and on the driver’s side rear arch there is a fine scratch that could quite easily go unnoticed. The other Evolution decals are also present and correct, and all the black trims remain undamaged with a nice satin finish. Being really picky the original rear arch strips are worn in a couple of places but this is purely cosmetic and only evidences the car’s honesty further. Having recently been treated to a full professional refurb in the correct diamond-cut finish, the factory-spec alloy wheels are perfect with newly fitted tyres all round.

INTERIOR

Inside you’re treated to an excellent mileage-defying interior. The sporty Recaro front seats still offer plenty of comfort and support, and quite remarkably the original cloth is free from discolouration or fading from the sun. The pale carpets are well protected in the footwells by a set of tailored black overmats, and the headlining is also undamaged. Glancing across the dash there are no major marks to any of the switchgear or original carbon-effect trims, and all the gauges work as they should. The steering wheel retains its original leather and the gear selectors are both immaculate. The back seats are also in fine order and fold forward twice for a larger rear load area. The boot carpet is virtually unmarked and in the rear door you’ll still find a complete toolkit.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

As with the rest of the car the engine bay is very well preserved, not overly dressed but in great original condition with no signs of accident damage or previous poor repair. At the heart of the Paj-Evo is the venerable 3.5-litre V6. This 24-valve DOHC powerplant features Mitsubishi’s Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control system (MIVEC), which varies the timing of the intake and exhaust camshafts to increase the power and torque output over a broad engine speed range.

Out on the road the Evo pulls well and shifts smoothly through all five gears. The Super Select 4WD system also operates just as it should, combining the advantages of part-time and full-time four-wheel drive with four additional drive options. In recent months the Pajero was treated to a comprehensive mechanical shakedown including a full service, cambelt change, caliper refurb, brake pads all round, a new battery, four new tyres, and an underside clean, all to the tune of nearly £4k.

HISTORY FILE

First registered in the UK in 1999 this very smart Pajero Evolution has now driven 114k miles in the hands of only 3 owners (plus 1 in Japan). The accompanying History File includes a Mitsubishi document wallet, an English-text Pajero Evolution owner’s manual, a raft of MOT certificates dating back to 2001, and an invoice for the recent major service work totalling £3,985. A limited amount of paperwork is present but the condition of the car certainly speaks for itself.
