Intro:

In a world of Porsche track specials, the CS is a classic piece of Porsche's 'school of lightweight', a well-seasoned classic track special Porsche created a more driver-focused package from the already well-honed 968. A great analogue driving experience with a fantastic balance the 968 Clubsport really has a great place in today's world giving a truly visceral driving experience. One of only 179 UK cars with only 59 of these on the road today. The car is favoured for its purity, pared-back specification and performance focus it was described by Evo magazine at the time as “a car that turns a good road into a great road”, this strikingly Violet 968 ClubSport is ready to deliver a thrilling, unfiltered driving experience.

Exterior:

This 968 ClubSport was specified in the rare factory colour of Amaranth Violet and features the distinctive silver 'ClubSport' decals on its doors. The car features the correct set of 17-inch ‘Cup’ alloy wheels with coloured Porsche crested centre caps. This particular example was also ordered with a sunroof great for summer days. The Condition of the paintwork is fair but quite not excellent making this a very usable example.

Interior:

The interior features the Recaro seat that the Club Sport has become famous for. With the Club Sport only having the bare essentials, weight-saving measures included the removal of the electric windows, air conditioning system, rear seats and rear wiper usually found on the ‘full fat’ 968s. Other modifications included a thicker-rimmed 3-spoke Momo steering wheel. This track-focused and no-thrills approach also saw the deletion of the rear seats and the removal of the vanity panels in the engine bay. The condition of the original black leather-trimmed cabin is free from any noticeable rips or tears and presents very well. The carpet is also in great condition and there is some slight wear on the main touch points and door cards in keeping with the vehicle’s use. There are very few to no known faults with the only known fault being the dashboard-mounted clock which is cracked and non-functional. The car has also been fitted with an aftermarket Kenwood stereo to keep the functionality of the vehicle up to date.

Engine:

The engine of the 968 was an updated unit as used in the 944 with a displacement increased from 2.5 litres to 3.0 litres increasing its performance. The engine now featured a variable valve timing system to boost engine power to 237 bhp and at 3.0 litre and 4 cylinders it was, at the time, the 4th biggest 4-pot ever made. The weight loss didn't stop at the cabin either, the engine bay was freed from pointless plastic engine covers and even the wiring loom for the engine was simplified for lightness.

Transmission:

The front-mounted engine and the 6-speed rear-mounted transaxle remained unchanged from the standard 968 however is still a great improvement on the 5-speed unit found in the 944. The shift is very direct and a joy to use especially down the best of British B roads.

Chassis:

The chassis was also unchanged from the 968 having been updated from the 944 which was a very well-handling car. Further sound deadening was removed or the ClubSport and the overall weight reduction was said to have added up to 100kg over the original 968. This weight-saving unlike Porsche cars of today lead the ClubSport to also cost less than the standard car.

Suspension:

The car’s suspension was also revised and tweaked for the track from the standard 968 and the ride height was lowered by 20mm at the front and rear.

Steering:

The thicker-rimmed 3-spoke Momo steering wheel is a great addition and has a really nice grip to it allowing the driver to feel the car giving the confidence to push the car down a country lane or on track.

Brakes:

The brakes are also lovely to use, stopping the car cleanly and are very easy to modulate, confidence-inspiring down a fast country road.

Wheels:

The CS also featured new 17-inch alloy wheels that became synonymous with the 968 Club Sport edition. This allowed an increased track from 205 to 225 for a more responsive turn-in. The rear tyres remained the same to ensure the CS had a more front-end positive balance which works well with the direct steering to make a really enjoyable driving experience.

Tyres:

Tyres are Toyo Proxes sport 225/45 ZR17 fronts and 255/40 ZR17 rear.

History:

The car is accompanied by its original owner’s book pack housed in the correct Porsche-branded document folder, paperwork detailing its maintenance history, magazines the car has featured in, a tyre inflator and two keys.

There is no known bodywork damage. The front wings were replaced in 2016 with genuine Porsche items to address some rust on the headlight surrounds.
