About:
The Porsche 911 997.1 generation was produced from 2004 to 2008 and represented a significant evolution of the 911 model. It introduced several new design elements, including a completely redesigned front end, revised headlights, and new tail lights. The 997.1 also featured a new interior, with a redesigned dashboard and centre console.
Under the hood, the 997.1 featured a range of engine options, including a 3.6L flat-six in the base model and a 3.8L flat-six in the S and GT3 models. It also introduced the first use of direct fuel injection in the 911, which helped improve fuel efficiency and performance.
Exterior:
The car comes in this lovely shade of Artic Silver, which pairs well with the silver alloy wheels. The sunroof is also a great additional feature for the car, especially on sunny days. The car's paint condition features only minor scratches and chips in the paintwork as expected but is overall in good condition with only one mark on the front bumper of notice.
Interior:
The car's hard-wearing dark blue leather with cream stitching is integrated tastefully with the silvery touches of the brushed aluminium trim interior and looks very good as new. The Bronzed colour central console somewhat dates the interior with the mobile sim card slot, and phone keypad low-resolution screen, however, this can be updated for more modern equipment if required. Another feature of the car was the foldable rear seats, with each one the exact size to fit a create of German beer, useful for a road trip. Overall the interior has held its condition very well despite the age and mileage of the car and looks fantastic, with only the back seat realise handle cover needing replacing.
Engine:
The 3.8 litres naturally aspirated flat 6 is a joy to use making all the right Porsche flat 6 noises with around 350 bhp, it has more than enough power to get the 1420kg down the road and to a top speed of 186 mph where allowed. The engine redlines at 7,000rpm, with great pull all the way through the rev range the car is great fun to drive and the characterful sounds make this variant something special.
Drivetrain:
With the engine in the rear, the gearbox is encased in the same unit as the limited-slip differential which gives the car a playful nature to its drive.
Transmission:
The power is sent to the diff via a 6-speed manual transmission which is a joy to use, feeling tight and mechanical as you can expect from a 911.
Chassis:
The unibody chassis was a development of the 996, made to Porsche's high standards, it offers great chassis stiffness giving the 997 great composure on the road and helping to refine the rear engine bias. The 997 is also more stable on the road than the 996 making it the preferred option for long-distance driving. The 997 was also the last of the smallish 911's from the 991 onward the cars became much bigger and more cumbersome making the 997 the modern 911 of choice for tackling UK country lanes with great engagement and refinement.
Suspension:
With the double-wishbone rear and MacPherson struts at the front, the car has classic Porsche driving dynamics, especially with that rear engine feel. The car is incredibly well-damped for normal road speed and when pressing on, the sport and stiffer suspension modes provide the support required when taking on twisty B roads and is fantastic to drive feeling like a proper old-school 911. The rear wishbones provide plenty of support at the rear and help to counteract the weight over the rear wheels.
Steering:
The steering again is another 911 classic with great communication and control weights giving it a very intuitive feel and giving the driver confidence to place the car on the road when pressing on.
Brakes:
The ventilated discs brakes are 330mm front and rear well balanced with the rear-engined bias. The brakes are easy to modulate and give good performance to the car's stopping power.
Wheels:
The Porsche Carrera S 'Lobster Claw' alloy wheels are designed for the Carrera S which look great and go very well with the Artic Silver for the full winter specification.
Tyres:
Front tyres are 235/35 and rear tyres 295/30.
History:
The car has recently had a full service from Wrightune. The service noted the following:
